Preparation
Before we begin, please make sure you have prepared:
- a printed proofsheet (if you have not, please check Calibration - Downloading a Proofsheet)
- a supported phone (QA supported phone list and Optics)
- Install Scantrust Printer app (How to set up your Scantrust Quality Control Device)
To proceed, you will need to perform the calibration scans.
- open the Scantrust Printer App
- log in (only printer operator or printer administrator roles can log into the printer app)
- if you are not already on the calibration screen, tap the hamburger button in the top left corner
- from the slideout menu select 'calibration'
The app itself will also guide you through the calibration process, but we will describe it in detail here as well.
- click on 'scan' at the bottom right corner of the screen
- you may now scan any code from the proofsheet and the app will know which proofsheet you scanned
IF you scanned a substrate-specific proofsheet you will automatically skip the next step of having to select a substrate. The app will know already which one it is.
IF you scanned a general proofsheet you will have to tell the app on which of the previously to this equipment-associated proofsheets you have printed this time.
Extra Step for 'General Proofsheets' (not needed if you printed a substrate specific proofsheet)
- all associated proofsheets will show up on the screen
- find the correct one
- underneath the substrate name, the status of the substrate is indicated. (NEW or CALIBRATED) If you come across a substrate that has already been calibrated you have 2 options:
- abort the action
- continue and recalibrate. To recalibrate, just keep going.)
- click on the correct substrate
- Now you see the name of the printing equipment and the name of the substrate.
- ensure your selection is correct
- if you notice that you selected the wrong substrate, click on the back arrow at the top left corner of the screen to select the correct one
- if you believe the substrate was printed on a different printer, you will have to start over because proofsheets are always specific for the printing equipment.
- it is not permitted to print a proofsheet generated for one piece of equipment on another
- when you are certain all is correct, click 'next' at the bottom right of the screen
Scanning and Submitting the Proofsheet
You should now see all the codes on the screen outlined symbolically, just like they are outlined on the printed proofsheet. They are also numbered just like the codes on the proofsheet are.
- click on 'scan' in the bottom right corner of the screen to begin
- the scan screen will open
- place the code inside the scan window on the screen. The corners of the code should be aligned with the blue corners inside the scan window
- as soon as the app captures an image of the code, it will go into analyzing mode (This should take no more than a couple of seconds)
- if everything is okay, the app will let you know that the code was read successfully
- the app will now let you know which code to scan next
- should you accidentally scan a different code from the one the app told you to scan, there is no problem
- the codes you have scanned already, are colored blue on your screen proofsheet overview
- the app will always just suggest you scan the next code until each of the codes on the sheet is scanned once.
- once each of the codes on the sheet has been scanned, the app will let you know. Then simply click 'okay'
You will now see the proofsheet overview again. Notice, earlier all of them were grey, now they are colored blue.
- click on 'submit' in the lower right-hand corner of the screen
What happens after the Proofsheet has been submitted
Now the calibration session has been submitted to our engineers, who will evaluate your scans and determine which 'code type' best suits your printer-substrate combination.
In the portal, under -> equipment -> calibration session history, all the calibration sessions will show up with status submitted until our engineers perform the evaluation. Please be patient as this may take a couple of days. (Reach out to support@scantrust.com, should the calibration be required for an urgent client contract.)
Once our engineers evaluate your submitted scans and all are okay they will approve the calibration. You will receive a notification email as soon as your calibration has been accepted and the status of the calibration session in the portal is set to accepted. Your printing equipment is set to active, meaning it can now be used to print proper work orders.
IMPORTANT It is important to note that any printer, can only print work orders for an already calibrated substrate! However, there is no limit as to how many different substrates can be calibrated for one printer.
NOTE: General Proofsheet vs Substrate Specific Proofsheet
The difference between a general proofsheet and a substrate-specific proofsheet is that on the substrate-specific proofsheet the name of the substrate is already written on the proofsheet and it may only be printed on that substrate. On the general proofsheet, there is no substrate reference. It simply says ANY.
General Proofsheets are beneficial for i.e. offset or flexo printers when you wish to calibrate for multiple substrates. We recommend that you note down the name of the substrate that you printed on. Preferably in such a way that you can easily find it in the portal again.
