Alerts - Automatic Blacklisting

We’ve released an enhancement to our automatic blacklisting system for serialized codes. This new feature provides more accurate tracking of user behavior, making it easier to identify genuine counterfeit activity without false positives from legitimate user scans.

✅ What’s New?

1. Session-Based Scan Tracking

  • A scan session now captures a user’s full interaction journey with a code, from product info lookup to authentication attempts.

  • Multiple scans by the same user for the same code are grouped into a single session, even if they include failed attempts.

  • If the code is serialized (SID), or the user only performs a query scan, the session count equals scan count.

2. Install ID Tracking

  • Each app (including mobile and web) now sends a unique install ID, helping us identify individual user sessions with greater accuracy.

🎯 Why It Matters for You

🚫 Fewer False Positives

Legitimate user activity won’t result in automatic blacklisting. A single user scanning a code multiple times (e.g., due to errors or retries) will be counted as one session, not multiple scans.

🕵️‍♂️ Improved Counterfeit Detection

With more reliable scan data, the system can better detect suspicious patterns and genuine counterfeit behavior.

⚙️ How to Activate Session Count Tracking

To enable this feature for your campaigns, please follow these steps:

1. Go to the Campaign Options.

2. Under the Alerts tab, select “Session Count” as the alert reason:

3. Then select the number of Max counts.

4. Finally, toggle on the Auto Blacklist option. Don't forget to save the changes.

🔄 Note: This does not automatically replace the old Scan Count logic for clients currently using it. You must manually switch to Session Count per campaign

📌 Summary

Old Behavior New Behavior
Each scan counted individually Multiple scans in the same session = 1 session
Failed authentication attempts inflated counts Retried scans grouped in the same session
Higher risk of blacklisting valid codes Lower risk of false positives

By adopting this feature, you can offer your clients more accurate scan tracking, better counterfeit insights, and reduced risk of blacklisting valid codes.
