EU regulation 1169/2011 and wine industry self-regulatory proposal requires users (or producers?) to input energy values in kJ and kcal per 100 ml and per serving.

The value of X supports 2 decimal places, e.g. “5.00” and doesn’t support negative values.

Total Energy = Energy of Alcohol + Energy of Sugar + Energy of Organic Acid + Energy of Polyols 

E  = Volume of wine (ml) * (Alcohol %/ 100) * 0.789 * Cov. factor for alcohol

Sugar (g/l) * Volume of wine (ml) /1000 * Cov. factor of sugar + 

Organic acid (g/l) * Volume of wine (ml) /1000 * Cov. factor of organic acid + 

Polyols (g/l) * Volume of wine (ml) /1000 * Cov. factor of polyols

  • When performing the calculation, enter a value with 2 decimal places
  • The final value of total energy is rounded off to zero decimal places, e.g. “295 kJ”
